healing through art

"Art Therapy is a mental health profession in which clients, facilitated by the Art Therapist, use art media, the creative process, and the resulting artwork to explore their feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, manage behavior and addictions, develop social skills, improve reality orientation, reduce anxiety, and increase self-esteem."
The Expressive Arts Therapy Program at the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin helps patients and their families express their emotions through art. The program goes beyond arts and crafts and into the imagination for creative stimulation, communication and coping.

  1. Before deciding to major in Mass Media, I was planning on pursuing a career in Art Therapy. The influence that art has on each and every individual is different and it is amazing how are impacts and helps to heal.

    1. I thought about pursuing it as well, but art is more of a hobby for me, so I didn't really want to make a career out of it :) It is a pretty fascinating field of work, though!

  2. I wrote a blog post of my own about art therapy! There is such a huge range of therapies to use, including nonconventional art like gardening or decorating a room.
